Every year FieldCore’s Welding Centre of Excellence (CoE) located in Rugby (UK) trains and certifies more than 100 welders and equips them with the world class welding skills to efficiently execute works for our customers around the globe. This qualification training ensures our resources remain competent and qualified to cover all sectors of the energy business from a qualification perspective.

The training centre has operated since 2006 and quickly became a centre of excellence for specialist welding services. The UK’s welding center is part of the FieldCore’s Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) organization and has been the main point of contact for specialist welding works, supporting numerous project each year from a welder approval and engineering solution perspective. The CoE is now frequently contacted to supply repair solutions or execute events based on individual engineering cases. To ensure contractual and technical compliance they are able to develop procedures to ensure that welding operators and applied processes are compliant to international and customer’s standards and specifications.

The UK’s welding CoE has played a major role in delivering high integrity upgrades and overhauls across all the regions. Among others, our teams recently executed projects like: GT upgrades such as High Efficiency (HE) and Interstage Desuperheater (ISDS); main steam and hot reheat replacements on UK plants; temper bead welding has been adopted in plants in Zimbabwe and South Africa; stainless steel gas fuel piping modifications for 9E class machines in Czech Republic; turbine casing crack repairs in Japan and Taiwan; specialist bespoke welding repairs for plants in Philippines and Russia, and man more.

The CoE is the only one in FieldCore to offer a “one stop” service for the following welding services:

  • Controlling and issuing of welding engineering documentation.
  • Procedure and solution development.
  • Welder qualification to applicable construction codes.
  • Capability to fabricate pressure part assemblies.

With a team consisting of highly skilled specialists including welding engineers, supervisors, quality control inspectors, welding resource coordinators and welding instructors whilst boasting a weld execution team of 50+ welders qualified for all execution scenarios applicable to power plant overhaul and construction. To ensure quality processes are maintained they are accredited to ISO 3834-2 for both site and workshop welding activities.

Thanks to these in-house capabilities FieldCore is able to ensure correct number of qualified resources are made available for planned and emergent events providing confidence for our customers that required workforce are competent and available to execute.
